
Background
Ian is a multidisciplinary planetary scientist and software developer with over a decade of experience in private-sector science and technology. He specializes in designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud data pipelines, leveraging his background in planetary science to extract insights from complex datasets while prioritizing scalable and robust technology.
Before joining Earth Finance, Ian was VP of Data Engineering at Climate Engine, where he led the development and operation of data pipelines that produced high-quality scientific and geospatial data. He also ensured the company's core technological infrastructure met both the existing and future planned needs of the business. Prior to that, Ian worked as a research geophysicist and systems engineer in seismology, contributing to high-impact projects such as nuclear weapons test detection, earthquake early warning (EEW) systems, volcano monitoring and large-scale energy and infrastructure initiatives. He has also worked as an independent contractor in areas such as remote sensing and machine vision. Ian holds a Master of Science in Planetary Science and Exploration from Western University and a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics from Queen's University.
